A & B Musical Instruments is solely Geelong owned and operated since 1985.
Our business has developed because we believe in listening to the needs of
musicians.
Servicing the requirements of all musicians is our main aim. We strive to
solve any problem no matter how small, "attaining
the impossible is within our reach".
Below is a list of some of the services we provide...

We link from this site to the majority of our suppliers because we want our customers
to experience entire ranges, not just what we have in stock. We regularly take special
orders for items that we may not have. We would much rather sell you what you really want,
rather than what we have in stock. Just take a look at the
Fender website and you'll understand where we're coming from. We'd like our customers to
use this web site as a starting point to finding just the right product.

We're heavily involved in RockFest, a competition for students throughout Geelong to
participate in a music competition. We provide the equipment to enable students to get
the full musical experience. RockFest gives students the opportunity to play with real gear
on a real stage in front of a live audience. For more information
contact Anne or Bill today.

We have devised what we believe is the correct criteria for a full grade one setup,
allowing the instrument to be played at its best. Many years of discussion with guitar
players and in conjunction with our own guitar technician, we have a proven formula for
getting the best out of your instrument, "it is
only logical that if your instrument plays well you play better".
Full Grade 1 Guitar Setup
- The frets have been dressed, shaped, and polished to eliminate any low frets and
buzzing notes. This job is the most important of all the items listed and taks the
most time.
- The truss rod has been adjusted to give the neck the correct contour. Guitar necks
should not be set dead straight, but should be slightly concave.
- The nut slots have been cut to give the correct string height at the nut, and the
tuning machines have been adjusted and lubricated where necessary.
- The bridge height has been set to give an easy playing action to suit the individual
customers playing style.
- The harmonics have been set to allow the guitar to play in tune in any position on the
neck (adjustable bridges only).
- Pickups have been adjusted to the correct height. An incorrect setting can effect the
tone and may result in uneven volume output when switching between pickups (electric
guitars only).
- Volume and tone pots, input sockets, pickup selector switches, etc. have been
checked for correct operation and mounting. Over time these parts may work loose
and damage the internal wiring (electric guitars only).
